About Ashton

A Voice of Passion

I am an Afro-West Indian lyric tenor (born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas) dedicated to fostering diversity in all musical spaces. My mission is to create space for underrepresented voices by expanding the musical canon to include works by BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, and living composers. I am passionate about collaborating on new music, I also prioritize cultural awareness and social diversity through my artistry.

Beyond performance, I am deeply committed to vocal pedagogy. Using scientific approaches to teaching, I aim to prepare students to become technically proficient, creative, and versatile artist citizens.

Experiences

From the tender age of six, my love affair with music began, a journey rooted in a childhood marked by a mad mix of strangeness and curiosity that drew me irresistibly toward the stage. What started as innocent fascination quickly blossomed into a lifelong passion, shaping my world both day and night. On stage, I found a sanctuary where I felt truly safe, seen, and heard—an experience that ignited an unquenchable desire to share this profound sense of connection with others. Over the years, this love has deepened into a rich tapestry of experiences, from conducting choral and choral-orchestral works to performing opera, recitals, and instructing private voice lessons. I am driven by a passion for mentorship and collaboration, and I am eager to nurture developing artists. I am forever grateful to Dr. Patricia Bazard and Dr. Audrey Dean-Wright, whose inspiring guidance and unwavering commitment to musical excellence planted the seeds that continue to flourish in my daily quest of being the best artist citizen I can be.
